ELITE lightweight fighter Courtney Chadwick, aged 21, was awarded boxer of the evening during Phoenix Fire ABC’s tournament at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Chadwick defeated Joe Knight from Sandygate ABC by unanimous points decision, in the first tournament in Warrington using the new AIBA pro-style points system.

Great Sankey’s Joe Payne, fighting in the schoolboy 45kgs section, won junior boxer of the evening after defeating Kevin Connell, Sefton ABC, by a unanimous points decision to avenge an earlier loss.

Sam Watson, junior 47kgs, was another Phoenix boxer to avenge a previous defeat, winning an unanimous decision against Harry Winnard of Wigan ABC.

John Taylor, junior 49kgs, won a split decision against Kaash Buttery of Meir Stoke in an excellent toe-to-toe battle.

Brad Robinson, junior 41kgs, won a unanimous points decision against Shea Chapman.

Ben Murphy, James Mercer and Sam Sinnott all lost split decisions in close bouts, while Thomas Ditchfield, Jack Withe and Kristap Klien all participated in skill bouts.

Phoenix have three more events before the end of the season, on March 22nd at Eagle Sports and April 18th and June 10 at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
