WOOLSTON Rovers start their Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Three season on Saturday when they entertain Coventry Bears at Monks Sports Club.
Rovers will be looking to get off to the best possible start by claiming a victory over a Bears’ side that will be determined to bounce back from their opening day defeat by Underbank Rangers.
Kick off is 2.30pm and admission is £2 for adults, £1 concessions and free for juniors.
Rovers head coach Lee Westwood said: “The Challenge Cup game against Elland showed me that we have a lot of talent at the club.
“We have since worked on areas that we identified.
“I am looking for us to build on a strong defensive unit and if we can do that then our attacking prowess will shine through and we will be very difficult to beat.”
Rovers A were due to start their North West Men’s League Division Two campaign at the weekend, but opponents Blackbrook A were unable to raise a team. A last-minute friendly was arranged against Blackpool Scorpions, which Rovers won 34-4 thanks to tries from Josh Woods, Danny Griffiths, Jordan Millington, Billy Maunder, Lewis Hoarty, Will Chadwick and goals from Jason Rutter, four, and Josh Woods.
On Saturday Rovers A travel to Rochdale Mayfield A.
