Daten 2 Grappenhall Sports 5

SPORTS travelled across town for this Cheshire League Division Two ‘derby’ with a big desire for the three points to help stem a run of three games without a win.

Sports started brightly and looked to have a good hold on the game but a dubious corner was given after Daten's first real attack on around 10 minutes, which led to Daten taking an early lead.

The goal rattled Sports and their early dominance disappeared for 15 minutes until they started to show signs of working their way back into the game.

Adam Green had a goal disallowed before Ben Howard shot just wide from 18 yards after a superb move involving five players.

Confidence was growing and the pressure paid on the stroke of half time when a keeper blunder from a corner did allow for Green to slot home from close range.

Sports came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and scored two goals in the space of five minutes, both coming from Adam Rosterne set pieces.

Firstly Ben Howard challenged and forced a Daten defender to head in to his own net before Daniel Sisson nodded home for 3-1.

Daten showed spirit and made it 3-2 from another header from a set piece but Sports responded quickly when Howard scored after initially having his penalty saved after Jordan Rigby was fouled in the box.

In the final 10 minutes Sports scored the goal of the game as they caught Daten on the break and substitute Rigby slotted home from the edge of the box after a six-man move.

Manager Darren Davies: "We always enjoy coming to Daten as the pitch is always excellent.

“We needed the points and the lads ensured we got them.

“We worked on our new set-up in midweek and it was great to see it working so well.

“I thought we showed a greater character and spirit than we have done of late and that was probably the most pleasing aspect of the day, alongside scoring five on the road."
