GRAPPENHALL were unable to overcome Penlake as they returned to action in the Cheshire League for the first time in five weeks.

Sports created early chances with Ryan Crawford twice missing when face-to-face with the goalkeeper, while Dan Sisson was thwarted from close range.

Penlake looked bright, edging ahead when Alex Grisedale struck low from distance after a patient build up.

The visitors doubled their lead with seven minutes left when substitute Andrew Silsby scored, but Sports replied when Danny Macintyre found Sisson who lobbed the keeper.

“On another day we would have won comfortably but we have to take our chances,” said Grappenhall manager Darren Davies.

“We should have scored four or five times in the first half, but our finishing didn’t match the build-up play.

“The game was tighter after half time but the second goal we conceded came from an error and was a big blow.”
