RYLANDS’ pre-season opener ended in defeat a friendly against Portico at Shark Park.
Vine were 24-0 up inside half an hour with Dale Croft bagging a hat-trick, Matt Devlin crossing and Kev Rooney converting.
Prop Rob Campbell crashed over for Sharks, Jack Lewis adding the conversion.
Portico replied with further scores from Croft and Rooney to leave Rylands 32-6 adrift.
On 42 minutes Jack Lewis scored a converted try and shortly afterwards centre Danny Hoyland finished out wide.
However, Portico posted late tries from Devlin and Danny Brown, Rooney adding a conversion.
Best for Rylands were man of the match Luke Walker, Dave Walker, Lewis Litherland and Russ Clarke.
