LEE Westwood did not get the result he would have liked for his first game in charge of Woolston Rovers but he saw plenty to be pleased about in Saturday's 20-6 Challenge Cup loss to Ellan at Monks Sports Club.

“I was immensely proud of all 17 players," he said.

"We are obviously disappointed not to have got the victory but there are plenty of things that I can take from the game and we will be even better once the league season starts in five weeks’ time.

“I have only been in the job two weeks and there were also several players who were making their debuts so we will all benefit greatly from this and we can look forward with confidence."

He added: “We will be working extremely hard in training over the coming weeks.

"There are things that we need to work on but the lads are really excited about the season ahead and we can’t wait to get started.

“Elland are a very good side so there is certainly no disgrace to lose to them. It really was a very close game with not much between the sides and the final score was very unfair on my players. On another day we would have been the side celebrating at the end.”
