YOUNGSTERS can take part in new Warrington Wolves training programmes, joining in sessions designed by club legend Lee Briers.
And coaches at community clubs can get involved too.
It's not too late to get involved, with the deadline for entries having been extended until this Friday after a good response.
The opportunity arises from Wolves' youth performance department launching 'Wolf Cubs' for those in the under 11s and under 12s age groups as well as 'Origins' for under 13s and under 14s players.
Kicking off at February half term, the sessions will take place at the Wolves training centre on the University of Chester Warrington Campus at Padgate.
Former Wales and Wolves skipper Briers, a three-times Challenge Cup winner, said: “The sessions will challenge, through using games, the player’s skills and decision making."
Initial phases of the scheme are open sessions to all players, running in February, Easter and May holidays, while the work with the older age group will lead into a 12-week training programme with a competition element.
The content of the sessions, as developed by Briers, will have a focus on:
• Games for Understanding
• Movement literacy
• Skill Development
• Decision Making
Briers added: "It will give them a taster of requirements within the club's performance programmes and I am sure it will identify some who can become future stars.”
The cost to take part is £20 and will include a unique scheme T-shirt.
There is also an opportunity for local coaches to deliver on the under 12s to under 14s programme.
Ben Lazenby, Wolves' head of youth, junior recruitment and development, said: “This is a fantastic chance for community coaches to work alongside the club's performance staff, both to develop themselves but also to be able to take some of the ideas explored back into their own teams.”
Every coach on the programme will receive coaching uniform and an individual coaching profile.
For further details on player participation or to apply for a coaching position, contact Wolves' player performance manager Phil Jones at Philjones@warringtonwolves.com.
Interested coaches should include details of coaching background and an explanation as to 'why you would like to coach on the programme'.
Closing date is Friday, February 14.
