WOOLSTON Rovers have appointed Matt Wilson as head coach of their new under 18s side for the forthcoming 2014 season.

Wilson is no stranger to Rovers having come through the junior ranks at the club before joining Warrington Wolves Academy as a 16-year-old.

Following his return to the amateur ranks he took up a player/coach role with Warrington Wizards ‘A’ in 2005 and then progressed to take over the Wizards first team in 2008 where he guided them to third spot in National League Three, only losing two games all season.

He was then a member of the Wizards side that won the Rugby League Conference National Grand Final in 2010.

He moved to Rylands and coached their open-age side to third place in the North West Counties Premier Division, a Lancashire Cup Final appearance for the first time in their history and also a BARLA National Cup semi-final.

He also had considerable success coaching Rylands Sharks under 18s, getting them to the BARLA National Cup Final and steering them to a very creditable third place finish in the National Youth League.

The Woolston club feel that the vast coaching experience that he has gained over the past few years makes him the right person to take on the task of establishing a new under 18s side for the green and golds.

If you would like to be involved in this new team, either as a player, assistant coach, team manager or committee member, then call Matt Wilson on 07432 682150 or Dave Whalley on 07809 647014.
