Kirkby Lonsdale 44 Warrington 10

AN injury-ravaged Warrington side were unable to halt Kirkby Lonsdale claiming a 34-point win on Saturday.

“This was not our best game of the season,” said coach Darren Abram. “Obviously, we were not helped by the state of the pitch and our injury list.

“However, I was pleased with our all-round defence and with the outstanding performances of our ex-colts Jamie Thompson and Ryan Preston.”

Warrington started well, however, Tom Wood slipping the ball to Ryan Preston and the ex-colt, making his first start at senior level, surging through the opposition defence to set up an excellent attacking position 20 yards out.

The ball was swiftly recycled and eventually found its way to Kieran Hughes for the winger to score, Pat Roberts converted.

Kirkby Lonsdale responded almost immediately to score in the corner, before edging into the lead as their strong number eight picked up from a five-yard scrum to bully over.

The hosts added two more scores to take a 20-7 half time lead and earn a bonus point.

Warrington cut the deficit with an early second half penalty from Roberts, but Kirkby replied to increase their lead.

The hosts ran in two more scores before being awarded a penalty try.
