Middlewich Town 1 Eagle Sports 3

EAGLE Sports ended their recent poor form with a 3-1 victory at bottom club Middlewich Town.

Player-manager Rob Hope said: “I’m relieved to get the win and end the recent bad run.

“We played well in the first half to go two up but we should have really been out of sight because we missed four or five really good chances.

“To Middlewich’s credit, they had a good go in the second half and Neil McDermott had to be in top form - he made three or four excellent saves to protect our lead.

“Overall, I’m pleased with the win but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.”

Sports ended a six-week wait for a win with a strong first-half performance, which saw the away side take a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Adam Coleman and Ged McAllister.

Neil McDermott in the Eagle goal was called upon several times to keep out the home side with some fine goalkeeping and Eagle also wasted chances to extend their lead before the break.

They were regretting those misses when Town started the second half with a potentially important goal, which made McDermott’s subsequent saves all the more important as the home side went looking for an equaliser.

Eagle’s Lee Boardman then effectively ended the Middlewich fightback when he struck home a 30-yard strike with 20 minutes remaining.
