A WARRINGTON athlete enjoyed an impressive Great Britain debut at an international cross-country event in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Teenager Harriet Knowles-Jones finished fifth in the BUPA Great Edinburgh XCountry junior event, a triangular match between Great Britain, Europe and the USA.

After the initial rush at the start the 15-year-old settled into fifth place in the leading pack and, despite not improving on her position, held her spot to come home as the fourth counter in Great Britain’s gold medal-winning team.

Bobby Clay won the race in 13mins 59secs, with her older sister Alex clocking 14mins 3secs to take second spot. Lydia Turner was third in 14mins 10secs, giving Great Britain a clean sweep.

Knowles-Jones posted 14mins 18secs, contributing to the overall win in the match for the Great Britain team.
