HARRIET Knowles-Jones warmed up for her Great Britain debut this weekend in fine style.

The Warrington Athletics Club starlet, who will be representing her country in the junior Edinburgh Cross Country race on Saturday, was around two minutes clear of her rivals in the under 17s girls’ contest at the weekend's Cheshire Cross Country Championships at muddied Birchwood Forest Park.

She wasn't the club's only county competitor in celebratory mood.

Liam Burthem finished in the under 17s boys’ bronze medal position and with Daniel Evans, fourth, and Leighton Sharman, eighth, won the team silver medals.

Cameron Field was one of only two Warrington AC runners in the under 20s men’s trip but he won by a large margin.

Sam Evans struck gold for the third successive year, although this time at the higher under 13s level.

Evans was a runaway winner, having led from start to finish, and added a team silver with Ben Harrison, sixth, and Jordan Jones, 10th.

In the girls’ race, Isabelle Trevithick secured silver position as the team, including Megan Atherton, 13th, and Jessica Wall, 37th, came home fifth.

Lucas Hayes was third on his debut, backed up by Owen Darbyshire, 16th, and William Bainbridge, 26th, for fifth place in the under 11s team event.

Ashley Nemits, fifth, Maya Evans, seventh and Lydia Blair, 10th, sealed silver for the under 11s girls.

Lauren Ferris’s silver in the under 15s girls’ race was her best run to date and backed up by Sarah McGrail, third, and Melissa Boyer, fifth, the team gold was achieved.

Behind them Lauren Goddard, sixth, Olivia Bush, ninth, and Amy Gibbons, 13th, took the team silver medals.

In the boys’ race, Owen Lee was third and with Jack Stubbings, eighth, and Sam Rostron, 11th, they secured team silver.

In the senior men’s race, Mervyn Ward was second in the veterans’ over 55s age group.
