WARRINGTON Town may be exceeding Shaun Reid’s pre-season expectations, but the boss insists his side can maintain their good form in 2014.

The Yellows hit Christmas on 50 points, their best at this stage of the season in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier First Division North.

Reid set his sights on promotion prior to the season, but admits it is a pleasant surprise to see his outfit leading the pack at the halfway stage.

“I was positive before the season began,” he explained. “But didn’t envisage us being top with a record number of points for the club at this stage of the season.

“I expected us to be top five or six, but I always think January is when the league starts to take shape.

“We’ve got 20 games left and heading into the run-in the stronger sides will push on, if we win our games we have a great shot.”

The former Rochdale midfielder recently added on-loan keeper Josh Ollershaw to his ranks and is hopeful a good relationship with Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander will see more players arriving from the League Two club.

“I have played against Graham on numerous occasions and he knows what I’m about, so who knows – hopefully at some point we may take another couple.

“I’ve had a look at some young lads who have impressed me. The keeper is with us for the next seven games and then we’ll have another look.

“I brought him in as I felt the pressure was getting to Josh (Cook) a bit. He’s only 19, it was the right time to bring a new keeper in and Josh will come back stronger.”

Town recovered from defeats to Darlington 1883 and Lancaster City to beat Harrogate Railway, sending them three points clear at the top, and Reid was pleased with his side’s response.

“You don’t go 17 games unbeaten if you’re not a good side,” he added.

“I’ve told the boys there will be hiccups along the way, but as long as they keep the belief they’ll always bounce back – they’ve had some great results this season.”

There will be no time for Town to rest on their laurels over the Festive period, with back-to-back away games first to Prescot Cables on Boxing Day and then to Clitheroe two days later on Saturday, both 3pm kick off.

They then host Northwich Victoria on New Year’s Day, kick off 3pm, in their third game in little more than a week.
