IT was ‘Evans above’ for Warrington Athletics Club in the third round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Sherdley Park in St Helens.

Sam Evans bagged his third series victory in the under 13s boys’ age group, winning by 11 seconds in 11mins 46secs. Ben Harrison was ninth in the same race.

Daniel Evans continued his comeback from injury in the under 17s event, taking the victory in 22mins 17secs and heading Liam Burthem, second in 22mins 35secs and Leighton Sharman, eighth in 24mins 5secs, as first placed team position was secured. Robert Dykes was 13th.

In the under 15s boys’ race, new recruit Owen Lee was seventh in 20mins 20secs. He was followed home by Jack Stubbings, 12th in 21mins 6secs, and Sam Rostron, 22nd in 22mins 2secs, as the team finished fifth. Daniel Fox was 24th.

Warrington’s fourth-placed under 11s girls team were led home by Lucia Meloni, eighth in 9mins 31secs, backed up by Ashley Nemits, 13th in 9mins 48secs and Maya Evans, 24th in 10mins 6secs. Lydia Blair and Charlotte Stokes finished 33rd and 34th.

Jemma Eyre was 23rd in the under 17s race in 25mins 48secs.
