BRIDGE Foot Police Boxing Club heavyweight Micheal McKay missed out on a national novice championships title.
Only the second loss in the 26-year-old’s 18 fights was a split decision in the ABA class B 91kg contest against Coventry’s Noah Burton, of Triumph ABC, in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, on Saturday.
McKay had recorded a semi-final success against Adam Simpson, from Preston’s Larches and Savick club.
Bridge Foot’s opening show of the season at Orford’s Jubilee Hub was hailed a success.
Best of 13 contests was a toe-to-toe battle between Bridge Foot 16-year-old Billy Potter and junior Welsh champion D Walker.
Potter was on fire, knocking Walker from pillar to post in his win.
Danny Craven was back in action, outclassing Bredbury and Stockport’s L Arrowsmith, who retired at the end of the first round.
Joe Kohe-Love and Oscar Meacock achieved points wins in their debut fights against Kingsway’s L Willings and South Wales’ J Hawkesford respectively.
Jimmy Gentle kept his record intact, a first-round stoppage against Fleur-de-Lys ABC’s M Jones being his third win inside a month.
Leroy Smith gained a hard-earned points win against Fulwood’s I Akatar.
