WARRINGTON Campus men’s football first team ended 2013 on a high after they toppled Uclan 4-3 in a real Christmas cracker at Padgate, writes Daniel Sharpe.

Warrington took the lead midway through in the first half with their first real chance, when Denzel Edward’s exquisite turn left two defenders for dead.

They say a team is at their most vulnerable just after scoring and in this instance that theory was spot on.

A corner from the right bamboozled the Warrington defence and Max Ripinson brought out the best out of goalkeeper Alex Bell, before striker Jamal Tommerson tapped in the rebound to make it 1-1.

Warrington regained the lead when Matty Bryan’s pin point cross was met by the toe end of Liam Donnelly, an advantage that was doubled when Ryan Cannon’s innocuous upfield ball caused UCLAN defender Aiden Hart to slice the ball into his own net.

Mike Alcock’s volley reduced the deficit after the break, before chance after chance went begging until Alex Bell’s parry fell kindly to Tom Smith, who smashed home to make it 3-3.

But just as it looked like the match was heading for a draw, Josh Luckhurst popped up with a lovely side-footed effort in the dying seconds to win it for Warrington.
