SHAUN Reid has lauded Warrington Town’s ‘fantastic’ support as they prepare to welcome the Darlington 1883 faithful this weekend.

The Yellows suffered an opening day 2-0 defeat to 1883, who were founded by fans after former Football League club Darlington went bust.

The Quakers maintain a large fan base, but Reid hopes Warrington can match them with a big crowd at their Lousher’s Lane Ground for Saturday’s 3pm kick off.

“Wherever we go our fans seem to be the loudest, which is great, there is a fantastic core support,” he said.

“Darlington will bring a big crowd so hopefully we will get a lot of support down to match them.

“We’re hoping we can improve the ‘gate’ at this club. With the club performing well in the league it’s important for the town to see what we are doing.”

Ben Wharton had a strike ruled out during the season-opener but Town have lost only once in the league since and are sitting pretty in top spot.

“It was a tough place to go and the video showed the goal we scored wasn’t offside,” added Reid.

“I’m told these things even themselves out over the season. It’s a long time since we have lost in the league and I don’t want that to end on Saturday.”

Town sit eight points clear of second place Curzon Ashton, but may have increased their advantage if the top two’s clash last week had not been cut short due to floodlight failure with Reid’s men two goals ahead.

“It adds some excitement still having to play them twice,” he explained. “We’ll have nothing to fear as we’ve shown we’re no pushovers.”
