EAGLE manager Rob Hope is pleased to go into Saturday’s Liverpool Cup quarter-final clash with Old Xaverians on the back of a hard-earned victory against the reigning Cheshire League champions.

Hope, whose men finished runners-up last term, said: “It was an important three points as we continue to chase teams above us who have played more fixtures.

“It’s always tough at Knutsford and without really being at our best with the ball at times, I thought the attitude and commitment were excellent.”

Ged McAllister had a 20th-minute curled effort ruled out for offside and Liam Walker went close with a diving header.

More energy and quality was on show from both sides in the second half but Eagle grabbed a 69th-minute winner from a corner, captain Craig Hall drilling through a crowded penalty area.

Eagle: Perry, Coleman, Chinn, Hall, Cross, Bruce, Hickman, Walker, Waldron, McAllister, Ellis. Subs: Burthem, Hope, Quirk, L Boardman.
