GRAPPENHALL Sports overcame Warrington and District League high flyers Monk Sports in the last 16 of the Guardian Cup.
Monk forced a good save from keeper Jody Lewis before Sports had settled.
The Cheshire League Division Two men then went 1-0 ahead when an Adam Rosterne free kick went straight in from a tight angle.
In-form Danny Sisson doubled the lead before Monks responded with a fine 30-yard free kick.
Kurt McCarthy hit a stunning 25-yard free kick in response to make it 3-1 at half time.
On 70 minutes another fine long-range strike got Monks back in it at 3-2.
Sports again responded when Ben Howard was brought down in the box and got up to make it 4-2.
Grappers’ manager Darren Davies said: “Monks are winning well every week and we knew this was going to be a tough game.
“The pitch wasn’t great and we had to work hard to get the win.
“Our experience was the vital component in our success.”
