LYMM High School intermediate girls’ team, made up of runners from Warrington Athletics Club, won silver in the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final at Southend High School.

The team were led in by Victoria Ramsbottom, 14th in 12mins 43secs, Melissa Boyer, 15th in 12mins 46secs, and Lauren Ferris, 19th, in 12mins 50secs.

Sarah McGrail, making her comeback after a long injury lay-off, completed the team in finishing 63rd in 13mins 44secs.

Sam Evans was the highest finishing member of Warrington Athletics Club.

Evans was in the 15th-placed Bridgewater High School junior boys’ team along with clubmate Ben Harrison and finished in fifth place in 11mins 41secs.

He missed out on a medal by just six seconds, while Harrison was 73rd in 12mins 48secs.

In the junior girls’ race, Isabel Trevithick and Lara Spiteri represented Bridgewater High and claimed 55th and 114th places in 11mins 13secs and 11mins 57secs, while Mary Knowles represented Loreto Grammar School, Altrincham, and was 118th in 12mins 1sec.
