GREAT Sankey Leisure Centre’s Zenshin Karate SSK are celebrating two medals from the World Union of Karate-do Federations European Championships in Sheffield.
Joanne Phelan, aged 20, became junior women’s shito-ryu kata champion after qualifying for Sunday’s final in second place.
Annabel Mooney, aged 12, finished second in the 11 to 12-year-old girls’ all styles kata against competitors from all styles of karate from all over Europe.
Rebecca Dawson, aged 18, was fifth in her category, Jasmine Cross, aged 12, narrowly missed out on qualifying for her final and Tyler McKenna lost to the Romanian national kumite team.
