Shaun Reid hoping Warrington Wolves' success can spur on the Yellows
AN admiration for Warrington Wolves’ recent success is spurring on Shaun Reid to guide his Town side on an FA Cup run this season.
The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club announced a plan to reach the Football League this summer, and the manager hopes the Yellows can go some way to replicate their rugby-playing neighbours.
Warrington travel to Ossett Town this Saturday in the second qualifying round, when Reid hopes they can take another step towards the first round proper.
“I’m a great admirer of what the rugby club have done in this town,” he explained.
“If they’re doing well and we’re doing well then it bodes well for the future – if we can get a good run in the cup that’ll help.
“It’s a massive sport orientated town which is great, kids play both forms and if we can get people through the gates and start building a supporters’ club then it’ll be fantastic.”
Town host Curzon Ashton on Tuesday and a win would take them within a point of the pacesetters.
“If the lads show what they’re about we can get two good results,” Reid added.
“We have a decent squad of about 18 players, if I feel like anyone needs a rest then I’m not afraid of making changes.”
Town head into the FA Cup clash on the back of a resounding victory at Wakefield and Reid is pleased to have complemented an impeccable defensive record with ruthlessness in front of goal.
“It was only a matter of time until we did this to someone, on Saturday everything fell together,” he said.
“We kept another clean sheet which is phenomenal, so I’m very pleased.
“When I arrived we were conceding too many silly goals, we set about putting that right and it’s starting to show.”
