Reid looks forward to challenge of FA Cup
FA CUP fever returns to the HG Driver Recruitment Stadium on Saturday when Warrington Town look to progress in what boss Shaun Reid has labelled ‘the best club competition in the world’.
Yellows host Northern Premier League rivals New Mills in the first qualifying round, a team they defeated in Division One North earlier this month.
And Reid believes no tournament can match the romance of the world’s oldest domestic trophy.
“People talk about the Champions League but nothing beats the FA Cup – it’s fantastic,” said the 47-year-old.
“It’s the best in the world; Warrington versus New Mills in the same competition as the top clubs. You don’t get anything like it anywhere else.
“The professionals look forward to it as much as the non-league sides.
“It’s a massive game, not just because of the size of the competition but also the chance to earn good money.”
Six consecutive wins have delighted Reid, especially Town’s five clean sheets, but he is not letting his players get carried away.
“They’ve stood up and been counted,” he added.
“We look in decent shape, but are far from the finished article. It’s up to the boys to keep showing me they deserve a starting spot.”
