A ‘nilling’ clinches Section A title

KING and Queen A have secured the Warrington and North Cheshire Monday League Section A title by five-points following an emphatic 14-0 whitewash of Tetley A.
Bill Stewart, 21-8, and Steve Brown, 21-9, the top winners as they ensured King’s superiority over second-placed St Oswalds, who beat Woolston A 14-0 thanks to dominant wins from Charlie Bebbington, 21-1, and Neil Dolan, 21-5.
Grange A scored a 9-6 victory at Grapes to take third place, helped by Eric Frangleton and John Garratt sharing the sweep 21-11.
Fourth-placed Alford A drew 7-7 with Rylands A, with John Garratt Snr taking the home sweep 21-10 while Steve James replied with a 21-12 card.
Grange B scored a 9-6 success at Eagle A.
Burtonwood A lifted the Section B title after defeating second-placed Culcheth A 9-5, with Mal Grady, 21-10, and Jason Finney, 21-11, the top winners.
Vulcan finished in fourth spot despite a 10-4 loss at Bulls Head A, for whom Mike Baxter, 21-3, and Dean Gregory, 21-5, were the best winners.
Tetley B defeated Orford WM 9-5, while Cadishead finished the season with an 11-3 success over Crosfields.
Grappenhall B took the section C title by six points from King and Queen B, Grappenhall A trailing in third with Penketh Park a point further back in fourth.
Padgate T&BC won Section D ahead of Alford B, with Penketh Tavern trailing in third and Monks Sports A a further place back.
Section E was won by Orford War Memorial A, who finished ahead of Rylands B, Eagle B and Bulls Head B respectively.
St Oswalds C were crowned Section F champions, with Culcheth B finishing second, Irish Club A third and Monk Sports B taking fourth spot.
The league’s player-of-the-year competition will be held at Rylands on Saturday, September 14, further details will be sent next week.
