Trio celebrate Oulton’s 60th

THREE Warrington residents were in action at Oulton Park’s annual Gold Cup event over the bank holiday weekend.
With 2013 being circuit’s 60th anniversary, both the entry list and the static displays were aimed at those with interest in motor racing from the 50’s through to the 90’s.
Warrington’s Martin Richardson and Andrew Bentley from Lymm, each in 1840cc MGB sports cars, were racing in the Guards Trophy for GT Cars.
With a large starting list of 35 entries comprising AC Cobras, E-Types, Lotus Elans and others, this was a race for real nostalgia.
Richardson started in 24th and Bentley in 26th and over the course of the 17-lap race they both improved to finish in 19th and 20th place respectively, with Bentley finishing 11 seconds back.
Warrington’s Mark Jones was racing his two-litre Vauxhall Cavalier in the Super Touring Trophy for those touring cars from the ‘90s.
The speed and the driver’s commitment ably demonstrated why they were such a success and ‘must-see’ races at the time.
Mark had qualified in 11th overall and seventh in his class, before a steady and consistent race saw him climb up through the pack to finish sixth overall and fifth in class.
