Kings of the Challenge Cup
2:00pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in Sport
KING and Queen bounced back from last week's Silcock Cup defeat to lift the Challenge Cup trophy at St Oswalds on Saturday.
Their hopes of a cup double disappeared following defeat to old rivals St Oswalds seven days previous, but King recovered from that disappointment to beat Monk Sports A 194-171 and lift the trophy.
They enjoyed a perfect start when returning the first four winners, John Brown, 21-15, Damian Morrison, 21-12, Steve Brown, 21-20 and Dave Twigg, who put in an early man of the match performance when winning 21-8.
Monks' first winner was Brian Clarke with a card of 21-9 and though Keith Fowles, 21-17, was also a winner the rest of the match belonged to the in-form King side, who are currently battling with St Oswalds for supremecy in both Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association's Monday and Friday leagues.
King then had the last four winners Bill Stewart, 21-20, Ray Goodhand, 21-19, Danny Watson, 21-17 and finally Larry Wells, who defeated Geoff Lee 21-18 in an entertaining final game.
