HARRIET Knowles-Jones has smashed a club record.

In only her third race over 3,000m, the Warrington Athletics Club starlet smashed Heather Timmins’ seven-year high with the 9mins 48.62secs she clocked in the under 17s race in the Trafford Grand Prix at Longford Stadium.

The 15-year-old, of Lymm, who was the London mini marathon winner last month, scrubbed 11 seconds off the record.

Knowles Jones, whose mum Jayne represented Great Britain as an athlete, continues to prove her dominance in races after a strong cross country campaign that included medal success in national events as well as winning the McCain Cross Challenge in her age group.

Five of her clubmates also recorded personal bests in the Trafford Grand Prix.

Luke Johnston, also running 3,000m, finished 10th in 8mins 33.02secs to eclipse his previous fastest time by around 12 seconds.

He went on to record a best in his next event too, crossing the line 11th in the British Milers Club Grand Prix 1,500m D race in Solihull in 4mins 0.47secs.

In the 800m series at Longford Stadium, under 17s runners Chris Fance and Robert Dykes renewed their battle from the Cheshire Championships.

This time Fance came out on top with fifth fifth spot in 2mins 6.08sec, while Dykes clocked 2mins 6.58secs.

In the 1,500m series, under 20s runner Cameron Field came home second, recording a new best of 4mins 5.74secs, while in the under 15s girls’ event Amy Gibbons finished 14th in a PB 5mins 28.55secs.
