WIRE Gymnastics Club’s Ruby Doherty and Jasmine Wightman have been crowned Cheshire and Merseyside champions in their respective age groups.
One of seven girls who travelled to represent the Birchwood-based club at the regional event in Liverpool, Birchwood Primary School’s Ruby, aged seven, swept the board on her competition debut.
She earned gold medals in the floor and vault disciplines to win the overall title, scoring a clear two points more than any of her rivals in the under eights age group.
Bruche Primary School’s Jasmine, aged 11, followed up with a gold-medal for her floor routine, taking the overall prize in the under 11s category.
Eight-year-old Gorse Covert Primary pupil Niamh Aldrige won bronze on the vault as well as silver on the floor to claim second place overall in the novice agenine category, while eight-year-old Christ Church Primary pupil Ruby Woodall won bronze on the floor in the same section.
Their teammates Beth Giles, aged nine from Woolston Primary, and Alicia Cairns, aged nine from Cultheth Primary, took gold and silver respectively on floor in the novice age 10 category.
