Newton close the gap on Warrington Snooker League leaders
RICHMOND A's lead at the top of Warrington Snooker Division One was cut to four points after they suffered a 4-3 defeat to Irlam Cons.
Keith Veldhoven’s break of 30 for Irlam ensured Richmonds ended empty-handed, with the loss meaning second-placed Newton B are just four points back with a game in hand.
At the other end of the table Roosters C fought their slide towards relegation with a 5-2 victory over Penketh Tavern A.
That result spells trouble for Culcheth Sports B, who slip further down the table after bottom club Monks A triumphed 5-2 to end their long run without a win.
Rylands A briefly returned to the top of Division Two with a 4-3 win, despite GESM B’s John Barton recording two breaks of 32 during the match.
However, their league lead did not last long, as Rylands went on to lose 5-2 to new leaders and strong favorites Walkers A the following day.
GESM recovered to beat bottom of the table St Josephs 6-1, meaning they move three points off Walkers with two weeks of the season remaining.
Gary Lunn’s break of 33 helped St Benedicts secure their Division Three title with a 6-1 hammering of Roosters D, with second-place Woolston B’s 4-3 loss to Kings Club C ensuring Benedicts cannot be caught.
There was a shock at the bottom of the Division, where last place Eagle Sports defeated third-place Penketh Tavern B 4-3.
