LYMM Hockey Club's men maintained third spot in North West League Division Two when they enjoyed a winning return to the Padgate Campus pitch.

Lymm used the pace of the pitch effectively against a lively and youthful Formby team, enabling passages of attacking one touch play resulting in Lymm being awarded several penalty corners, where the captain Ross Arrowsmith definitively converted a strike from the top of the D into the bottom corner.

Following a comprehensive half time reflection of tactics, Lymm continued to dominate the game maintaining the vast majority of possession.

Lymm added a second goal as Andy Hunt embodied tenacity as, with a dogged combination of skill and strength, he forced the ball through several Formby defenders and beneath the keeper to double the lead.

Formby’s pace on the attack paid off to make Lymm play a precarious final 5 minutes as they grabbed a late pressurising goal, picking off a defensive mix-up following a counter attack.

However, Lymm remained composed to close the game off and secure the final score of 2-1 and three points.
