Bank Quay Bulls 28 Ashton Bears 16
BANK Quay got their season underway on Saturday picking up two points from the game with Ashton Bears.
The early exchanges were even with the defence from both sides along with the wet conditions keeping chances to a minimum but that changed on the on the 23rd minute when the influential Chris Forster went at the line and put NIck Braide away.
He beat three defenders before diving under the sticks with Chris Forster adding the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Quay then went further ahead following a set move in which Chris Forster set free Matty Wilson, who then passed back inside to Eddie Vaughan who raced under the sticks with C Forster adding the extras for 12-0.
With Quay looking to be taking hold of the game it was Ashton who managed to score through their loose forward.
Then just on half time the score was stretched to 16-6 when Matty Wilson crashed over in the corner.
During the opening minutes of the second half Quay had chances to stretch their lead but were made to pay for not taking them on the 50th minute when Ashton finished off a flowing move and got back within one score.
Quay responded just minutes later when Danny Forster darted over from dummy half with brother Chris converting to make it 22-12.
Ashton's never say die attitude was rewarded on the 65th minute when they scored in the corner and set up a tense finish only for Nick Braide to crash over on the 78th minute following good work from brother Ant who also added the extras.
Best for Bank Quay were Danny Forster, Nick Braide and debutant Stu Shaw.
