WARRINGTON'S second team turned in an 8-try performance supported by awesome defence to overwhelm their illustrious opponents at Walton Lea Road.
Warrington wasted no time in setting the tins rattling on the scoreboard when Craig Byrne bustled over for the first of his two tackle-breaking tries. Matt Drinkwater added the extras with the first of his seven conversions.
Tom Arnold then showed his speed by scorching over from forty yards before Daffyd Floyd steamed over from 20 yards and Craig Byrne made the half time score 28-0 with his second try.
Matt Drinkwater floated through a gap ten minutes into the second period to score and this was closely followed by a signature individual effort from Tom Arnold.
Captain Paul MacKay then made one of his rare appearances on the scoresheet but he did it in fine style.
Scrum half Danny Newens split the defence with a fine break and found Paul Mackay on his shoulder as he was tackled. He managed to offload and the veteran winger first skinned his youthful opposite number before finishing off in style in the corner.
The final word was fittingly left to Matt Drinkwater, who jinked over to score the side’s 1000th point of the season, while bringing his personal tally to 300.
“This was another excellent win,” said skipper Paul MacKay after the game.
“And once again, we showed importance of defence in providing the foundation for attack. Hopefully, we can maintain our momentum until the end of the season”
