BANK QUAY BULLS ran in five tries in a 28-16 victory over ASHTON BEARS.
It took 23 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, Nick Braide crossing and Chris Forster converting to give the Bulls a 6-0 lead.
Eddie Vaughan and a second Forster goal doubled it, loose forward Chris Borthwick hitting back for the Bears just before the break, Tom Hopkins with the conversion.
However, in the final play of the half Matt Wilson made it 16-6 for the Bulls.
Hopkins with a self converted try cut the gap to four points but in the 53rd minute Dan Forster crossed, Chris Forster goaling to put the Bulls back in charge.
Winger Danny Roberts crossed out wide for the Bears to bring it back to a converted score between the sides and the outcome was settled two minutes from time when Nick Braide powered over for his second try, Ant Braide with the extras.
ROOSE PIONEERS put up a brave show but went down 24-8 at home to CLOCK FACE MINERS.
The visitors built a 12 point lead by the 24th minute thanks to tries from prop Peter Edwards and inventive Martin Hutton, Hutton converting both.
Pioneers enjoyed their best spell either side of the break, Andy McClure and their best stand off Steve Neale crossing for unconverted efforts, Matt Garner responding for the Miners with the game turning try and Hutton landing his third goal.
Miners completed the scoring in the 78th minute when hooker Andy Stanton who was their stand out went over, Hutton perfect with the boot.
HALTON SIMMS CROSS triumphed 10-0 in a hard fought battle against HALTON FARNWORTH HORNETS to claim their first victory of the campaign.
Callum Hayes’s try and a Brendan Kavanagh goal was all that separated the sides at the break, Sam Clarke’s touchdown the only points in the second half in testing conditions.
