A MAN who tackles fires was tackled himself this week, all in the name of good fun to promote this season’s primary schools sevens competition.

The opening round of Fire Service 7s fixtures, involving 28 teams, will take place at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium prior to the Super League match againstt Huddersfield Giants on Friday, March 22.

The Fire Service 7s is the oldest pre-match schools’ tornament in rugby league and this year several teams are new to this popular competition, which was won by St Margarets Primary School last time round.

The original silverware presented to the winners was called the Ashton Trophy, which now sits in the cabinet at The Halliwell Jones Stadium having been replaced by a more modern cup.

First round fixtures: Penketh CP v Meadowside, St Margarets v Croft, St Paul of The Cross v St Philips, Twiss green v Woolston CP, St Peters v St Bridgets, Cinnamon Brow v Broomfields, St Wilfrids v Stockton Heath, St Elphins v St Oswalds, Christchurch v Oakwood, St Andrew v Hollins Green, Sacred Heart v Westbrook Old Hall, Burtonwood v St Benedicts, Sankey Primary v Culcheth, Evelyn Street v Appleton Thorn.
