TWO goals from Jake Turner pushed Warrington Campus men’s football first team towards relegation as they lost 3-2 to fellow strugglers Liverpool Hope University.

Jack Weedal gave Warrington the lead before goals courtesy of Chris Hylinger and Turner turned the game around in two first-half minutes.

Turner grabbed his second goal of the game to double Hope’s lead before Mark Boland reduced the deficit late on to ensure a nervy finale for the Merseysiders.

It took just six minutes for the hosts to take the lead, Boland delivering a delightful corner onto the head of Weedal who beat his marker to head home.

An ambitious bicycle-kick by a visiting attacker was the best chance of a dull period that followed, until Hylinger brought the scores level after rounding goalkeeper Alex Bell.

The visitors were in front just a minute later, a wonderful long-range strike by Turner evading Bell in the Warrington goal to turn the game on its head.

Joshua Luckhurst and Ryan Cannon both had chances from close-range to bring the home side level after a stinging Danny Walsh free-kick was parried loose, but Hope defended bravely to keep the lead.

Turner finished well to Bell’s right hand-side on the stroke of half-time to increase the visitor’s lead with his second goal of game, leaving the home side deflated as they left the field.

A fierce free-kick from the impressive Mark Boland evaded everyone to find the bottom corner with eighteen minutes left, but Liverpool Hope resisted a late fight-back to hold on to the victory.

The two side’s meet again at Hope Park in two weeks time in what could end up being an all or nothing game for Warrington should they fail to pick up points against third-placed UCLAN on Monday.
