LYMM missed out on an appearance in the women’s Cheshire Cup Final after a brave performance against Brooklands Poynton ended in heartbreak.

Lymm were unable to capitalise upon several penalty corners earned early on, meaning that it was particularly painful when Brooklands, who play two divisions above Lymm, broke the deadlock with a golden goal in the first minute of extra time.

TWO first-half strikes set Lymm on the way to a third successive North West Hockey League Division Two victory.

The visiting backline were opened up by a sequence of inch-perfect passes between George Kemp and Brendon Morris, with Phil Griffiths sweeping the ball home.

A third penalty corner was then converted by Rick Cook.

Lymm, who lost 2-1 the following day at Bangor University, scuppered further opportunities to put the game beyond the weary opponents until Andy Hunt slotted home late on.

DESPITE conceding an early goal, Lymm made light work of their hosts.

Rachel Broadhurst soon equalised and Nadine Roe made it 2-1 at half time.

Lymm played like a different team in the second half, with Broadhurst completing her second hat-trick in three games and further goals coming from Ashleigh Jackson and Roe.
