WARRINGTON Men’s first team shared the spoils with Bolton Men’s Fourths after a 6-6 goalfest in the North West Hockey Division Six North.

Hosts Warrington flew out of the blocks to shoot into a 3-0 lead after just five minutes, with two penalty corner goals from Ben Vickers and a smart finish from Steve Worrall looking sufficient for a comfortable victory.

But Warrington’s great start also led to their downfall, as they took their foot off the pedal and allowed Bolton to hit back twice to reduce the gap.

Worrall’s second strike extended their lead, but 10 minutes in the sinbin for captain Noal Phillpotts dropped Warrington down to 10 men, meaning Bolton were able to hit a third goal in the final moments of an eventful first half.

Another strong start in the second half saw the hosts craft a 5-3 lead thanks to Vickers’ hat-trick strike, but again Warrington were the victims of their own success, dropping the workrate and shipping three unanswered goals to trail 6-5 with minutes remaining. Help was on hand in the shape of Worrall, who left his best until last and dribbled round three players before beating the keeper to score a deserved equaliser.

* WARRINGTON women’s first team got back to winning ways after the snow break in the Cheshire Womens’ Division Two with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Alderley Edge.

Steph Lace gave Warrington the lead after determined play by Jenny Day and Emma Bartlett.

The youthful Alderley Edge team equalised soon after the break, only for Steph Rawlins to score again with a bullet-like short corner strike.

Despite some nervous moments Warrington stayed strong to secure the win thanks to excellent turns from Tracy Jackson in goal and Nathalie Long in defence.
