Duncan back on track
7:30am Monday 28th January 2013 in Sport
AN Old Hall motorcyclist who hung up his helmet after the birth of his daughter has his eyes set on a successful season in a national championship.
Andy Duncan gave up riding his bike on the roads five years ago but found the allure of the track too tempting to resist, with the 42-year-old making a return to competitive racing in Thundersport GB’s Golden Era Superbikes Championship last year.
“I have been riding an awful long time, but I gave up riding on the roads when my daughter Sydney was born,” he said.
“It all started again because of a track day three years ago, which I enjoyed more than I could have ever imagined.”
He made a successful return to the track in last season’s championship, finishing 10th of 46 riders in the competition for 1000cc V-twins and 750cc four-cylinder machines.
But after missing out on almost half of the nine rounds last year, Duncan, who rides an Aprilia RSV 1000, is hoping to gain some additional funding to ensure he can compete in every round of the televised competition in 2013.
“The guys who finished ahead of me last year were able to compete in most of the rounds,” he said.
“This year I would love to ride in them all and improve my final position, but I need sponsorship to do that.”
