WARRINGTON Athletics Club celebrated success at the Cheshire County AA Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
A total of 13 individual and seven team medals were brought home from races at Reaseheath College in Nantwich.
An impressive clean sweep of medals at under 13s girls’ level was agonisingly close to being matched by the boys.
Melissa Boyer, Lauren Ferris and Lauren Goddard stormed to gold, silver and bronze respectively, also snaring the team gold.
It was looking good for the full house when Luke Gamble crossed first for the boys, and Jack Stubbings defied a bruised toe to collect silver.
Daniel Fox was run out of the bronze-medal berth late in the race but fourth spot was enough to secure a team gold.
Gold was a popular colour in the under 15s age class too.
With favourite Harriet Knowles-Jones missing due to illness, Lizzie Smith rose to the occasion to take the title by one second in a sprint finish.
She was backed up by Vicky Ramsbottom in fifth and ninth-placed Georgia Aston-Massey to top the team standings.
In the boys’ race, Daniel Evans lived up to his favourite tag.
Supported by good runs from Leighton Sharman, fifth, and Robert Dykes, seventh, they took the collective prize.
Sam Evans defended his under 11s boys’ title, leading his first-place team of Jordan Jones, fourth, and Ben Harrison, fifth.
In the under 17s girls’ race, Alysha Goddard achieved silver, as did Kate Titlow in the seniors’ section.
Liam Renton was runner-up in under 20s men’s category, while team silver was delivered by the under 17s boys’ trio of Cameron Field, Liam Burthem and Daniel Richardson.
Third-placed Lucia Meloni, Mary Knowles and Lydia Blair helped the club’s under 11s girls’ team to a bronze gong.
