Trafford 3 Warrington Town 2

TOWN will be glad not to visit Trafford again this term after letting slip a two-goals lead there for the second time in seven days.

Warrington had established an advantage by the break, Kevin Townson applying the finishing touch to John Miles’ assist to break the deadlock after half an hour.

The visitors survived a scare when Michael Oates skied a penalty for the hosts after he was felled by Phil Doran, inflicting maximum punishment when Phil Mooney converted Jimmy McCarthy’s cross after Miles’ free kick had crashed against the crossbar.

Substitute Shelton Payne made an impact for Trafford after half time, serving Paul Ashton who halved the home team’s arrears with an emphatic finish on 61 minutes.

Oates then made up for his spot kick failure when driving in from distance to restore parity.

Doran’s day got worse when he bundled over Payne for a second penalty on 77 minutes, the same player converting the resulting kick to complete a come back started a quarter hour earlier.

Town: Robertson, Davies, Doran, Dogan, Mitter, McCarten, McCarthy, Mooney, Townson (Ruane, 84), Miles, Ciaran Kilheeney. Subs not used: Andy Kilheeney, West, Flynn.
