WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s cross country runner Katie Brough is keeping her fingers crossed that she gets the call-up for Team GB at the European Championships in Budapest on Sunday.
The 30-year-old was placed on GB’s reserve list after an impressive performance at the McCain UK Cross Challenge, in which she recorded a time more than one minute faster than she acheived in the same race last year.
But all is not lost if she does not get the go-ahead, as she has also been selected to represent England at the Venta D’Banos International Cross Country meeting in Spain on December 15.
Brough, who made a return to running last year after an eight-year hiatus, juggles her training with her wedding photography business and raising her three-year-old son Matthew, but admits that she could not do it without the help of her family.
“The last six months I have stepped up my training and seeing the benefits, but without the support of my husband and my parents this just would not have been possible,” she said.
