THREE Warrington Athletics Club teams finished in the top 10 at the English Cross Country Championships in Mansfield.

The under 13s boys’ trio of Luke Gamble, Daniel Fox and Jack Stubbings placed highest in fourth, while the under 15s girls were fifth and the under 17s boys ninth.

Stubbings, in only his fifth race for the club, produced a stunning turn of speed 400 metres from home to finish in 7mins 28.05secs one place outside the medals.

Opening runner Gamble had handed over in fourth place after setting the sixth fastest time of 7mins 9.20secs, with Fox then clocking 7mins 48.10secs to maintain fourth spot.

Harriet Knowles-Jones continued her fantastic form as she carved her way through the field to seal fifth for the under 15s girls, her 7mins 4.70secs the fastest split.

Lizzie Smith had led off with 7mins 50.25secs to hand over in 23rd place and Sarah McGrail moved up to 14th place with 7mins 58.25secs.

Matt Hulse’s 9mins 39.15secs hauled in nine places after Cameron Field’s 9mins 39.15secs had left the under 17s boys 18th.

Liam Burthem took over for the final stage and maintained the team position with 10mins 4.15secs.

Warrington fielded a senior team for the first time in a while, Dominic Mahon, Oliver Park, Richard Park, Alfie Crockett placing 86th.

In the under 20s boys’ race, Luke Johnston’s 9mins 45.65secs, Liam Renton’s 9mins 45.35secs and Tom Jervis’ 29mins 38.20secs brought the team home in 25th spot.

It was a 17th-place finish for the under 13s girls, with Melissa Boyer registering 8mins 1.85secs, Lauren Goddard adding 8mins 21secs and Lauren Ferris crossing the line in 8mins 32.85secs.

Louise Watterson brought the under 15s girls’ B team home in 34th after the runs of Victoria Ramsbottom, Georgia Aston-Massey, and Olivia Bush while the C team of Amy Renton, Laura Nicholson and Louise Watterson were 66th.

The under 13s boys’ B team of Sam Rostron, James Dykes and Alex Crawley finished 72nd overall.
