WARRINGTON’S Welsh international prop forward Ben Evans will be joining clubmate Matty Blythe on a season-long loan at Bradford Bulls.

Evans, who turned 20 last week, is yet to make his Super League debut with Warrington but figured for Wales in the Autumn International Series clashes with France and England.

The twin of centre or winger Rhys Evans appeared in the Wolves Under 20s Grand Final victory over Leeds Rhinos at the end of September.

Changes to youth-level rugby at Super League clubs, including no over-aged players in the new under 19s competition, mean Evans would not have a Warrington team to play in next season if he missed out on selection for the Super League team.

With Wolves boss Tony Smith having Adrian Morley, Chris Hill, Garreth Carvell, Paul Wood, Ben Harrison, Mike Cooper and Tyrone McCarthy available for front row spots, the move to Francis Cummings’ new-look Odsal squad is seen as a good one for Evans to build up his Super League experience.

“When Tony Smith suggested the idea of going out on loan I grabbed it with both hands,” he said.

“Like Blythey, I want to be playing every week in Super League and going to Bradford provides the opportunity to try and do that.

“There are a lot of young enthusiastic boys at Bradford and speaking to Francis, that was the key.

“He was saying that enthusiasm is a massive part of the club and that all the lads are raring to go next year.

“He told me I could be a part of that and help the team further.

“I know quite a lot of the lads such as Blythey and Elliot Kear, plus I’ve played with and against Adam O’Brien and John Bateman as well.

“That will make things easier for me again and I can’t wait to get started.”

The former Great Sankey High School pupil and ex-Burtonwood Bulldogs amateur signed professional terms with Warrington in 2009.

He and brother Rhys’ pursuit of a career in rugby league became evident when they made the move to Warrington from south Wales with their mother in 2007.
