Winning return for rally driver

DAN Dunbabin made a winning return to driving after a six-year absence when he and partner Paul Hargreaves swept to victory in the Formula 1,000 Rally Championship.

The 26-year-old from Stockton Heath and co-driver Hargreaves, aged 39 from Birchwood, were untouchable throughout the 2012 season, teaming up with Walton's HGS Motorsport and earning a place on the winner’s podium on every outing.

The Warrington and District Motor Club pair started with a win on week one at Wigan’s Three Sisters Circuit in their Nissan Micra and never looked back, with events taking place in Lancashire, Merseyside, North Wales, South Wales, Lincolnshire and Suffolk.

George Jennings, chairman of Warrington and District Motor Club, said: “Hopefully they will be able to clinch the North West 1,000cc Championship as well.

“Danny and Paul have been members of Warrington and District Motor Club for a while now and to get a result like this is a real boost.”
