Collins caps off superb season

FLATTRACK racer Aidan Collins narrowly missed out on a podium place in the FIM World Cup Championship after a first-place finish at the final round in Miskolc, Hungary.

The Rock Oil Honda rider earned three second places and a win in the hard fought qualifying races, managing to win the second semi final and secure second choice of grid positions in the 12-lap grand final.

In a hard-fought race Collins was handlebar to handlebar with Italian rider Vesperini for eight of the 12 laps before racing ahead to win the final and a fourth-place finish overall.

Missing two rounds in California may have derailed his hopes of a podium finish in the World Championships, but Collins' fourth-place coupled with his third British title means it was still a successful season for the Thelwall rider.
