Hewitt reaches Pro-series final

WARRINGTON’S young tennis talent Ashley Hewitt reached the final of the AEGON GB Pro-Series Tournament in Glasgow, losing out to Germany’s Bastian Knittel in straight sets in the final.

But the second-place finish in the £15,000 tournament represents an excellent form boost for the 20-year-old, who had to beat number one seed and UK number two Josh Goodall in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4, to reach the final.

It was the first International Tennis Federation match Hewitt has entered since joining Bolton High Performance Tennis Academy in August, having battled back from injury-ridden 2011 season.

Unfortunately, Hewitt failed to back up this performance in the AEGON GB Pro-Series in Cardiff this week, losing in three sets to Joris de Loore of Belgium.
