Mastermind’s master chef
SELECTED because of it's impressive reviews and authentic Italian roots, a Bewsey restaurant is going to be featured in the final of Mastermind.
Last year Da Nico's restaurant received a call from a BBC researcher informing owner Nico Siano that his eatery had been chosen from all the Italian restaurants in the borough to be filmed for the TV quiz show.
The restaurant, on Lovely Lane, was selected as a location to film grand finalist Derek Moody, from Great Sankey, as programme producers wanted to stage the contestant - who had chosen to specialise on The Godfather film trilogy - in an authentic Italian environment.
During flimng, Nico was asked to prepare food and present it to Mr Moody, of Ealing Road.
Mr Siano set up his restaurant in 1992 to promote pride in his country's cuisine and give customers a true Italian experience.
The 46-year-old said: "They chose my restaurant because they read all of the reviews and saw that we were a proper Italian.
"If you are good enough for the BBC you are good enough for everybody."
The proprietor, who settled in Warrington after working in a Covent Garden restaurant, prides himself on the professionalism and the Italian passion at Da Nico's.
He said: "In chain restaurants you get new staff every five minutes - they change as often as a pair of underpants.
"My restaurant is family run. Authenticity is not about location, location, location, it's about quality, quality, quality - it's the only way to survive. It's not in the ideal location but that doesn't matter if you have the authenticity."
The restaurant will feature in the Easter Monday airing of Mastermind.
