A SCAFFOLDING depot could be developed on a disused industrial site in Woolston if plans are approved.
But ward councillors have asked that the application goes to a full development control meeting so it can be decided by elected councillors rather than planning officers.
In a letter a council spokesman said the disruption to residents in terms of noise, dust, fumes and traffic would be too high.
Applicants CDM Developments want to create a 914 square metre industrial unit at the site, which is currently empty.
The site is currently a disused brownfield within the industrial area of Bridge Lane.
CDM Developments wants to establish a scaffolding depot at Centre 21 on the Woolston site.
The depot will also provide 11 more car parking spaces, three spaces for motorbikes and 12 for bicycles.
The plans are currently set for approval by council officers but the request for it to go to the development control committee means there is still a chance it will not go ahead.
CDM Developments wanted to open between 7am and 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.
But planning bosses say the hours must be cut back to 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday.
They will allow the depot to open between 7am and 4pm on Saturdays, but not at all on Sundays and bank holidays.
This is to minimise disruption to residents living nearby.
Another condition is that no customer vehicles will be allowed to stay on the premises outside of the opening hours.
The building will also have to be sound proofed in order to get planning permission.
Residents of Cliftonville Road and Manchester Road have objected through their ward councillors because of traffic, poor access to the site, loss of privacy and noise.
