Rewarding enterprise of the young

AMBITIOUS Bridgewater High School students met with Young Enterprise officials and volunteers at the Broomfields Avenue school last week.

The organisation, which has been helping young people to gain enterprise skills since 1963, celebrated with pupils after Enterprise Rent-a-car, Westbrook, donated a cheque on April 22 to support the company that teaches money-management skills.

Enterprise Rent-a-car's £2,500 gift will enable two new companies of people aged between 15 and 19 at a Warrington school to participate in the programme during the next academic year.

Martin Gaunt, sales manager for Enterprise Rent-a-car, said: "We have been involved with Young Enterprise for the past four years.

"We decided that it was time to give something back to the community and we felt that helping them with some business advice was what we could offer. We meet with them once a week from September to April and act as advisers.

"We really enjoy it. It teaches us to listen."

Cath Stewart, YE's volunteer liaison manager, north west, said: "We thought that rather than just pick the cheque up it would be a nice idea to involve the students who have been involved with the scheme.

"We rely on companies like Enterprise Rent-a-car to provide business volunteers to help these young people during their Young Enterprise experience."

Students gain practical experience of business and enterprise through setting up and running their own real company.
