A TEENAGER from a Latchford high school will be flying the flag for the town when she heads Stateside in July.

Laura Britton, a pupil at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, will be crossing the Atlantic to join youngsters from around the globe at a workshop in Washington DC as part of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership World Leadership Congress.

The 15-year-old, of Thelwall Lane, Latchford, won a place at the prestigious seminar after completing a four-day course in Chester earlier this year.

She said: "I'm looking forward to learning more about what I want to do and meeting people from all over the world and different cultures.

"There is going to be lots of things going on. There are lots of seminars and last year they all went to a baseball game."

HOBY offers young people the chance to learn more about leadership, giving them skills to introduce to their peers as ambassadors to empower young people around the world.

Laura believes that she will get a lot out of the experience.

"You are going completely on your own, going to a new place.

"I know that I'll have to adapt to different situations like this in the future," she added.

Now the year 10 pupil is in the process of raising money to covering the cost of the trip.

Already planned are bag-packing events, sponsored silences and a talent show and Laura is looking for sponsorship from businesses.

"Please help me because it is a great opportunity and I hope to pass on the experience I have had to other people," she added.

If you would like to help Laura raise money for the trip, then you can contact the school on 636414.
